Do you want to change the setting or create a new style for your portrait without going through multiple manual editing steps? Portrait Effects on Foneo uses AI to transform the scene, lighting, and atmosphere of your photo into the style you want.

    How to Use Portrait Effects

To get started, upload the portrait you want to edit to Foneo and open Portrait Effects.

Filter Settings interface for Portrait Effects on Foneo

    1. Preview Your Photo

After uploading your photo, it will appear in the preview area in the center of the screen. Use this area to view the original image and check the result after applying an effect.

Foneo supports Before and After comparison, so you can see the changes made to your photo.

    2. Select the Photo You Want to Edit

Uploaded photos appear as thumbnails below the preview area.

    • Click a thumbnail to select the photo you want to edit.
    • Click the + button to add a new photo, or drag an image directly from your computer folder into the preview area or thumbnail list.
    • If you have multiple photos, you can select them individually or select multiple photos to edit.

    3. Choose a Portrait Effects Template

In Filter Settings, select the Template tab to browse the available effects.

Templates are designed in a variety of styles and settings. Simply choose a template that matches your idea and click Apply—there is no need to enter a Prompt yourself.

Foneo uses the original photo and the selected Template to generate the effect with AI. Try different templates to find the style that best suits your photo.

    4. Create an Effect with a Prompt

If you cannot find a suitable Template or want to create a setting based on your own idea, you can use a Prompt.

Enter a Prompt to describe a portrait effect on Foneo

Switch to the Prompt tab, then describe the effect you want to create. You can include details such as:

    • Setting: The space or environment surrounding the subject.
    • Time and weather: For example, sunset, winter, or snowfall.
    • Lighting: Natural sunlight, evening light, or cinematic lighting.
    • Colors: The main color palette of the photo.
    • Mood and style: Soft, romantic, vintage, or cinematic.

    Example Prompt:

Replace the background with a snowy landscape during golden hour. Add warm sunset light reflecting on the snow, gentle snowfall, cinematic sun rays, and a cozy winter atmosphere.

If you are not sure how to write a Prompt, click Suggest Prompt to get suggestions. You can then edit the suggested description to better match the style you want.

    5. Save a Prompt for Reuse

If you have created a Prompt that works well, click Save prompt to save it and use it in future editing sessions.

    6. Apply the Effect

Once processing is complete, check the result in the preview area. If the effect does not look right, you can:

    • Choose a different Template.
    • Adjust the Prompt.
    • Try a different setting or style.

Then click Apply again to process the photo with your updated choices.

    7. Review the Result Before Exporting

Before exporting, compare the Before and After images. You can drag the slider or use the split-screen view to compare the two versions.

When reviewing the result, pay attention to:

    • Subject: Do the face, hair, clothing, and body look natural?
    • Setting: Does the new environment suit the pose and composition of the original photo?
    • Lighting: Does the lighting on the subject blend naturally with the new environment?
    • Colors: Does the overall color palette match the style you want?
    • Details: Are there any unusual details or distortions?

If the result does not meet your expectations, return to the Template or Prompt tab to make adjustments and process the photo again before exporting.

    8. Export the Photo

When you are happy with the result, click Export file to export the photo.

If you want to continue with more advanced editing, click Ps to open the image in Photoshop and make further adjustments.

How to Evaluate the Result After Processing

After applying Portrait Effects, compare the original photo with the processed version.

    Pay attention to:

    • Subject: Does the subject look natural and fit the new setting? Has the subject changed unexpectedly? Is the image quality acceptable?
    • Setting: Does the new environment suit the pose and composition of the photo?
    • Lighting: Does the lighting on the subject blend with the new environment?
    • Colors: Does the overall color palette match the style you want?
    • Details: Do the details of the face, hair, clothing, and body look natural?
    • Overall look: Does the effect create a balanced and convincing image?

If the result is not quite right, try another Template or refine the Prompt to describe your idea more clearly.

Tips for Creating Beautiful, Natural Portrait Effects

    1. Use a Clear Photo with an Easily Recognizable Subject

Choose a high-quality photo with a clear face that is not obscured, too dark, or overly noisy. A sharp input image makes it easier to evaluate the changes after applying an effect.

    2. Choose a Template That Matches the Original Photo

Choose a Template based on the clothing, lighting, and style of the original photo to create a more harmonious result.

    Examples:

    • For portraits with a soft, gentle style, try templates such as Sunlit Garden, Flower Garden, Wildflower Meadow, Countryside Field, or Golden Wheat Field to create a soft natural setting.
    • For fashion portraits or a more distinctive style, templates such as Minimal, Library Room, City Skyline, or Winter Street can add visual impact.

    3. Write a Specific Prompt to Get the Effect You Want

When using a Prompt, clearly describe the elements you want to change, such as the setting, lighting, colors, weather, and atmosphere of the photo.

For example, instead of entering only:

    Snowy background.

You could provide a more detailed description:

Replace the background with a snowy landscape during golden hour. Add warm sunset light, gentle snowfall and a cozy cinematic atmosphere.

A specific description helps the AI better understand the style you want and generate a result that more closely matches your original idea.

    4. Keep Your Prompt Concise but Informative

Your Prompt does not need to be overly long or include too many unnecessary details. Focus on the most important elements to keep the description clear and relevant.

You can use this simple formula:

    Setting + Lighting + Colors + Atmosphere + Style

This structure makes it easy to adjust individual elements and experiment with different effects.

    5. Save Your Favorite Prompts for Reuse

If a Prompt gives you a result you like, use Save prompt on Foneo to store it and reuse it in future editing sessions.

Give each Prompt an easy-to-remember name and choose an appropriate category so you can find and manage your saved Prompts as the list grows.

    6. Try Different Effects Before Choosing the Final Result

    • Do not settle on the first result right away. Try different Templates or adjust your Prompt to compare changes in the setting, lighting, and colors.
    • After each generation, check whether the effect suits the face, clothing, and composition of the original photo. This will help you choose the version that best fits your needs.
